Basecamp

clock June 29, 2007 18:21 by author philip

I've become a complete Basecamp addict. I'm using to manage a handful of non-work projects and have been very satisfied. I really admire the team at 37 Signals for what they have done with their product line up. My only criticism is that their 'collection' of product web sites is kind of confusing. I'd like to see some more brand unification from them (not that Microsoft is any better when it comes to bizarre sets of overlapping brands and downright strange web sites).

Be kind and use my referrer code (philiprichardson) if you also decide to get hooked...

World Wide Partner Conference

clock June 26, 2007 22:46 by author philip

As mentioned earlier on the blog I'll be attending the Microsoft World Wide Partner Conference (WWPC). I fly in on Sunday afternoon and fly out on Tuesday night. I have one speaking commitment (closed door NDA Titan briefing on Monday afternoon) and would like to spend all my remaining time meeting with partners. I’d like to give preference to those partners in our of pre-release programs (Ascend and CTP) so we can have open discussions about Titan (thanks to the every friendly NDA).

If you are interested in meeting with me please send me an email and we can work out a time. I won’t be using the scheduling tool as it appears to be more trouble than it’s worth (similar to the scheduling pain with Convergence 07).

I just found out about CRM User Group organization: CRMUG. They are having a membership meeting (virtually) on June 27th if you are interested. I think I'll join in if my calendar permits.

Check out this Channel 9 Video by Ben Riga. In the video Shan McArthur from ADXSTUDIO discusses how their company builds solutions for customers using CRM as a platform.

When CRM Adoption Turns Bad

clock June 24, 2007 22:56 by author philip

Here is a great example of a failed CRM implementation. Sure the users are using the system and it probably helps them get their job done. However when you have an organization where the user feels comfortable refering to a customer as a 'retard' in the CRM system.... it is a complete failure in my opinion.

I'm passionate about the CRM space because I believe it has the capacity to significantly improve our society. Our highly specialized economies increasingly depend on fragmented customed experiences. When these interactions are disrespectful and frustrating it negatively impacts our quality of life. Who hasn't been stressed out by a crappy call center, incorrect billing details, telemarketers etc etc.

Update

clock June 16, 2007 15:27 by author philip

I've been super busy lately and haven't had much time for blogging. Most of my work is completely consumed by NDA level stuff (so it is hardly bloggable). Hopefully our marketing team will announce some stuff at WWPC which will enable me to talk more publicly about some the new Titan features for power users, customizers and developers.

Speaking of WWPC I'm heading there to Denver for the first few days (arrive Sunday night and fly out on Tuesday evening). I'm giving a closed door update on the Titan engineer progress. While in Denver I'm also keen to meet with other CRM partners. Email me directly and we can set up some time.

For those readers in the Microsoft field divisions we have lots of Titan content at TechReady (an internal MS training conference). If you are going - please come to our CRM sessions and bring along some of your colleagues who may be less familiar with CRM.

Yesterday my new Lenovo T60P Widesceen arrived. Frankly it arrived just in time as my 'rage levels' had been escalating with my Toshiba Tecra M4. First impressions of the Lenovo seem good. The keyboard is a little strange and it's taking a while to get my touch typing skills going. I tried 64-bit Vista but there was some driver problems with the Display Adapter. I rebuilt it with 32-bit and it seems to be working OK. The important thing is: it runs Virtual PC 2007 like a dream (critical for my upcoming conference presentations).
